Contest Rules

  • Contestants will have 24 hours to work on their entry. Final submissions must be made before the deadline at the end of the competition (noon Monday).
  • Contestants are allowed to work in groups on a single project. Each group can have a maximum of four members.
  • Teams must be finalized by the start of the competition.
  • Contestants are allowed to use any outside code that they have access to in their project, provided they have the legal right to use the code, and that the code is either publicly available online, or was authored by the contestant.
  • Entries must be new creations. Since outside code is allowed, the rule will be that at least 80% of the code must be new. Obviously this isn’t an easy thing for judges to gauge, so we ask you adhere to the spirit of the competition – create an entire program in 24 hours. (Libraries won’t be included in this 80% estimate – i.e., if there’s a c++ networking library, by all means use it! The STL too!)
  • Entries must be released under an open source license. Unless otherwise requested, this will default to a BSD license. Upsilon Pi Epsilon will host all entries on the P.24 website.
  • At the beginning of the competition, a theme will be announced. Entries must incorporate the theme in some manner.
  • Entries may be Desktop or Web-based, and can target any platform – provided the platform is available for judging. If judges do not have access to a specific platform, any team wishing to target that platform will be required to supply such access during the judging period.
  • Submissions must include some documentation on what the program is/does, and how to use it.
